I’m Getting too Old

I’m getting too old. It’s 2:24am; I’ve been up late playing games with some college friends of mine, as well as showing them the bunny, but frankly I’m just getting too old to stay up this late anymore. I never thought I’d get … old like this.

So, even though it’s tax-free weekend here in Massachusetts, I drove up to Nashua, NH to visit the Best Buy there and try to pick up a DVD player that can supposedly be hacked to be region-free. As you may or may not know, my old DVD player finally died – and even though I replaced the drive in it, the drive itself has to be region-free… and the DVD-ROM drives I had from work were not region-free. And since about 80% of my DVDs were bought by Amanda in Australia (region 4), and are PAL encoded (instead of NTSC, which is what we use here), I kind of need a region-free, PAL/NTSC DVD player.

Amanda had found out that this Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 could be hacked to be region-free, and as a bonus it’s only $41. So I bought it today and brought it home, only to find that although the region hack works fine, the player has this annoying brightness problem – it slowly cycles between low brightness and full brightness as the DVD is playing, over about 10-15 seconds. And that’s annoying as hell. So I’m going to have to return it tomorrow. (There’s no setting for brightness on this particular player – or at least not on this particular revision of the player.) Bummer.

So I’m without a DVD player for the time being (although I can use my PS2 to watch region 1 DVDs, what few I have). And since Amanda’s in Australia for the next 2 weeks (she left last week, in case you didn’t know), I’m kind of lonely, and watching DVDs can help – since there’s nothing good on TV these days.

At least it was a nice drive up to New Hampshire; although I think tomorrow I’ll take the player back to Best Buy in Worcester… I don’t feel like making that long drive again, nice though it would be.

Anyways, I’m feeling old and tired at the moment, so I’m off to bed. Goodnight!
