It’s almost that time of year again – autumn, my favorite season and time of year, and also my favorite time to take photos!
I snapped this one in the morning in my back lawn, as the sun was just coming up through the trees. It’d been a cool night, so there was a nice blanket of dew on the grass, which just adds that extra little sparkle.
There’s just something about autumn – maybe it’s the shorter days that make getting up at the “golden hour” easier, or the angle of the light, but even before the leaves start to change color, the world just seems more photogenic (to me, at least).
So, it’s raining today. And it’s currently 43 degrees F. (It was 63 two days ago.) Overall, it’s just been really, really, unseasonably warm.
I wish this rain would go away… and come back as SNOW! 16 inches or something crazy like that. I like snow.
Apparently seasons are for sissies. Now we’re just going to alternate between really stinking hot (summer) and really stinking cold (winter). Those in-between seasons (spring and fall) can just hit the road, man.
This was my weather forecast this morning, courtesy ForecastFox. Now, these aren’t unusual temperatures for the 30th of October. What’s unusual is the fact that until just the other day, it was very, very much warmer. Like, seriously!
To put this in perspective, I ran my air conditioners quite a bit this month. If that doesn’t seem somehow terribly wrong to you, read it again. It’s OCTOBER. I should not be running the A/C in October. I shouldn’t have been running it in September, either, but I was. (Okay, maybe a little bit at the beginning of September.)
And then, just like that, it’s cold out. It literally went from “all the windows open and the fan running at night to keep it cool enough to sleep” weather to “close all the windows and there’s a frost warning.”
If anyone wants to argue with me about climate change, or try and tell me that this is somehow “normal,” go right ahead – the comments section is open. That sound you’ll hear after hitting “submit” will be you getting laughed off the Internet.
In case you think I’m being silly about all this, here’s some relevant posts from previous years:
Mother nature seriously needs to get a new alarm clock or something. Maybe a fancy new PDA. (Or maybe she’s got a PDA, but doesn’t know how to use it.) In any case, this is getting crazy.
On Monday it was 90 degrees (F) on my porch during the middle of the day.
Yesterday it was supposed to get up to 80. It only got up to maybe 68. Today isn’t looking any better.
Everyone around here (myself included) had been complaining that it was time and past time for autumn-like weather to begin. It had been very, very warm lately – mid 80’s in October. That’s just not right.
And then it just changes, literally overnight. WTF? I thought this sort of crap was only supposed to happen in New England.
Argh. Well, at least it’s cooler out now and I can stop running the air conditioning! My guess now is that in 3 weeks it’ll be snowing. And then we’ll have another week of nearly 70 degree weather… in January.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, enjoy the weather, wherever you are.
I think this image says it all:
Now, some people might drop in some lyrics from any one of several songs that deal with “heat.” You might say “it’s getting hot in here/so take off all your clothes” or maybe “the heat is on, on the street” (depending on how old you are). Me, I’m too much of a geek, so I just say “Yaaooouch! Seafood soup!” (Thanks to Zany Video Game Quotes for the link.)
