The Progression of My Computers

Just for fun, here’s the progression of my computer(s) through the years. Of course, there is no picture of my Zenith 8088-based computer, as it only ran DOS. Likewise, I never got a picture of any screen in my 286, 386, or 486-based computers (all of which ran either DOS or Windows 3.1).

Windows 95

Ah, Windows 95 – this was “Home One,” the IBM Aptiva I bought for college. At the time, I thought it was a pretty sweet computer!

Windows ME

I seem to have lost the picture of my computer’s system properties window for Windows 98, but rest assured that I did run 98 for quite some time before (reluctantly) upgrading to ME. The computer that ran ME was Mobius, I believe – before I reformatted the whole thing for the next OS.

Windows 2000

Windows 2000 was with me for a LONG time – 6 years, I think. The computer that ran it was the venerable old Mobius – the most reliable and long-lived computer I’ve ever had thus far in my life.

Windows XP

Finally, as you know, I upgraded to a new computer – and not one that I built myself. *gasp!* I know, I know, what’s a computer geek like me doing a pre-built computer – from Dell, no less? Well, the short answer is that I’m lazy – and the long answer is that I’m lazy and I just wanted something new, fast, and put together right. I’m way behind the times in terms of hardware these days – I wouldn’t have a chance of knowing how to put together a fast system anymore. What with serial ATA hard drives and 7 different flavors of RAM… it’s just too much work. And I’ve got other things to worry about – let’s not forget what I do for a living at the moment, and let me tell you, that consumes quite a bit of my mental resources. Besides, it was a good deal and it’s fast – and has a warranty; which is something I’ve never had on a computer before (well, I suppose the Aptiva had one, but still…).

So there  you have it – the progression of my computers, as told by the System Properties window. Now, to play some games!

  1. Greetings, I stumbled on your web site through google due to it came up for “computers” but had problems viewing the webpage for some reason. It was throwing some sort of error code at the bottom of the page. Just decided I’d let you know.

    1. I’m sorry you got an error code at the bottom… what browser are you using, and what OS?

It could be a browser problem (if you’re using an old/unsupported browser), or it might have just been a temporary thing caused by the Google Analytics code at the bottom of all my pages being unable to load for you (perhaps it was blocked by a firewall on your network?).

Also… what sort of problem were you having viewing the page? I’m a little confused as to how you were able to submit this comment if you couldn’t view the webpage itself.
