What ever happened to “support the troops?”

It wasn’t that long ago that politicians (especially conservatives) used to fall over themselves to thank people for their service in the military, to shout loudly & often that you should “support the troops” and point to how much they themselves “support the troops.” You used to see “welcome home” banners on bridges over highways for returning service members.

And if you died in the line of duty you were honored and hailed as a hero.

Now though, you’re just “ha ha, looser” and don’t interrupt my golf game when they bring your lifeless corpse back into the country.
