Memories of Piggies

In contrast to the usual political & technological posts around here, I thought it would be fun to post some pictures.

Some years ago – alas! – I had 2 guinea pigs, named Abby and Bianca (both girls). Not long after we got them, we found that Abby had been pregnant since we got her – and we found this out in the most interesting way. After dinner one night, we heard some noises from the cage, and came out to find a new piggie! Ah, the miracle of birth!

I scanned these old photos the other day; they were taken right after we found the new piggie – whom we promptly named “Chewbaka.”

Our piggie is born! (Abby is the black, brown, & white pig – Bianca is the brown one.)

Chewie seems small, but it’s amazing to think he was inside of Abby (we had wondered why she was getting so fat!)

Chewie eventually grew into his namesake – his fur was just like that of the Star Wars Chewbaka – so the name was apt. He grew up with my mom’s kitten Dunkin – though he quickly became much larger than the cat!

Although Abby, Bianca, and Chewbaka are long gone, I still remember them fondly. We’ve come quite a ways since those three, in terms of names (we went alphabetically): Esmerelda (guinea pig), Fantasia (guinea pig), George (guinea pig – and still living with my mom), Hoggle (hamster), and Isabelle (hamster). And now, of course, we have Gussy (although her name doesn’t “fit in” with our alphabetical naming scheme).

Ah, memories! More pictures to come later of our furry friends!
