No More Winamp??

Current mood: Sad

Currently listening to: WKEITH Radio

I just heard the news – Nullsoft, the makers of Winamp… is pretty much closing down. The original development team has left, leaving only 3 people to keep the AOL-owned company alive.

It’s a sad day.

Winamp entered my computer back in 1997, in college, when I first hooked up to a high-speed Internet connection. Version 1 and Version 2 were the ONLY way I listened to my MP3 collection (which at the time consisted mostly of Sonic the Hedgehog techno re-mixes). Version 3 never caught on – many people felt the same way about it, and that wasn’t good – but version 5 (2 + 3 = 5) is playing my music right now. A bit slow, sure, if your computer isn’t up to par these days, but overall a great player… and I mean a REALLY GREAT player.

“Winamp – it really whipped the llama’s ass.”
