When I was younger, my friends and I would play a game called “Getting Lost.” The idea was that we would all get in one person’s car and pick a direction and start driving; then, we’d start taking roads that we didn’t know and deliberately try to “get lost.” The only rule was that we couldn’t drive on the same road twice. Eventually, the game became much harder to play, because we became familiar with most of the roads around our home towns, and we had to keep going farther and farther away to get somewhere where one of us didn’t know where we were.<\/p>\n

Fast forward to today, and I still enjoy playing this game – even though my original “Getting Lost” friends have moved away (as have I). Lately, I’d been itching to go for a drive – the weather has been perfect for driving – so today Amanda and I started driving. These days I tend to head north when I want to get lost, because I don’t know New Hampshire very well. The fun thing about getting lost is that you tend to find interesting places that are off the beaten path – and who doesn’t enjoy that?<\/p>\n

So today I found myself in Mason, New Hampshire, following some old beat-up signs pointing to a place called “Pickity Place<\/a>.” After traveling a few miles down some dirt roads, we ended up at this beautiful old house that’s been converted into a gift shop and restaurant. It was truly remarkable! They had acers of beautiful herb gardens, tastefully set out among the trees – and the old house was filled to the brim with interesting trinkets and country food. And for a further surprise, this place has a small restaurant, which serves a 5 course meal – a different meal every month – with ingredients grown right on the premesis. The best bit about it is the price, which is very<\/span> reasonable – and the menu sounds divine! I think I’ll definately be making a reservation to go back there and sample the food some time soon. It’s truly amazing what you can find when you’re willing to take a turn down a road you don’t know.<\/p>\n

So if you’re ever bored and want some excitement and adventure in your life, try taking a drive and take some roads you don’t know – you never know where you might end up!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Wherein I purposefully try to “get lost” in order to discover fun\/interesting new places when out driving.
