I figure this is because my family moved to New England when I was around 7 or 8 (I don&#8217;t remember exactly), and I was old enough to detect the difference in the way that people spoke. I&#8217;ve often joked to people that I speak &#8220;true&#8221; English, without an &#8220;accent&#8221; &#8211; unlike the New Englanders around me who most certainly <em>do<\/em> have an <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boston_accent\">accent<\/a> (to a greater or lesser degree).<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t ask me how, but I recently came across an article on &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/General_American\">General American<\/a>&#8221; in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wikipedia.org\">Wikipedia<\/a>, which I believe describes my &#8220;accent&#8221; (or lack thereof) quite accurately.
