During the last week I’ve gotten over 100 comment spams submitted to this blog – and almost all of them have gotten past my spam-blocking tools.<\/p>\n
This does not make Keithius happy.<\/p>\n
They all are coming from an IP in the Netherlands; specifically 213.33.239.9, and they are all short, 2-word spam messages like “viagra … viagra” with a link to some phoney site. Never mind that all links in the comments have Google’s “nofollow” attribute set; so there’s absolutely no value to putting comment spam in my blog for the spammer – it’s still downright rude. And I don’t know why my spam-blocking tools aren’t working.<\/p>\n
So, I went and blocked that IP address from accessing this site.<\/p>\n
In the process, I may have accidentally deleted a legitimate comment from someone – if you were that person, I apologize – I was deleting so much spam that I missed your comment and it was deleted. Sorry!<\/p>\n
We’ll see in the next few days how well my IP-blocking scheme works. If this sort of thing continues, I may have to enable moderation for all<\/strong> comments, and force people to register for an account before commenting. Ugh. But what can you do?
