Whatever we knew
\nIn the life before this one
\nWasn’t enough to keep us apart.<\/p>\n
I always come back
\nTo the night, and the stars,
\nAnd the darkness at the bottom of a drink.<\/p>\n
Feeling the liquid,
\nSmooth, soft, kind
\nThe only sensation I have left.<\/p>\n
My thoughts come to me
\nIn ragged, sharp gasps
\nMy last breath in this cold and empty life.<\/p>\n
Whatever lessons we learned
\nIn the times before now
\nWeren’t enough to stop us this time.<\/p>\n
Slow, nervous movement
\nDeliberate, but uncontrolled
\nTaken by my shaking hands.<\/p>\n
Reflections
\nIn the bottom of a glass
\nMy life from a thousand viewpoints.<\/p>\n
The shivering starts,
\nCold sets in slowly
\nWrapping my bones in hard stone.<\/p>\n
Whatever we thought we knew
\nBefore this moment
\nIs forgotten in a single movement.<\/p>\n
Colors of red and green,
\nLike blood and trees
\nFade to gray, like clouds and stone.<\/p>\n
No movement now
\nJust silence and stillness
\nA thousand years for a single breath.<\/p>\n
Only one thought
\nTo fill the glass
\nThe pleasant feeling of emptiness.<\/p>\n
Whatever we know right now
\nWill be forgotten
