{"id":631,"date":"2004-09-18T17:53:30","date_gmt":"2004-09-18T21:53:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.starkeith.net\/coredump\/?p=631"},"modified":"2013-05-16T19:24:39","modified_gmt":"2013-05-16T23:24:39","slug":"sanctuary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.starkeith.net\/coredump\/2004\/09\/18\/sanctuary\/","title":{"rendered":"Sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Quiet.<br \/>\nPeaceful.<br \/>\nThe dim, golden light, like the last rays of the sun before the end of the day,<br \/>\nCaptured and held here all night.<br \/>\nContrasted with a harsh fluorescence,<br \/>\nThe glow of countless excited phosphors being struck by high-energy electrons.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes soft ambient music can be heard.<br \/>\nOther times, the air is filled with the majestic reverberations<br \/>\nOf long-dead composers,<br \/>\nOr the overpowering harmonies of modern music,<br \/>\nAccompanied by one unrestrained voice,<br \/>\nAnd fed by one unrestrained heart.<\/p>\n<p>The hard corners and flat walls are hidden,<br \/>\nBy soft blankets and patterned quilts.<br \/>\nThe walls are a patchwork of pictures,<br \/>\nHand-drawn or pre-printed,<br \/>\nEach one has a story to tell.<\/p>\n<p>Piles of well-read books,<br \/>\nMy dearest friends.<br \/>\nOrganized clutter,<br \/>\n&#8220;A place for everything, and everything in its place.&#8221;<br \/>\nNothing is insignificant,<br \/>\nEverything has a history.<\/p>\n<p>The brown and white floppy-legged donkey,<br \/>\nPerilously perched atop the CD tower.<br \/>\nHe was a gift from my girlfriend,<br \/>\nThe first thing she ever sent me.<br \/>\nHis black marble eyes watch over me<br \/>\nIn her absence.<\/p>\n<p>A hand-drawn doodle, a space battle,<br \/>\nThe clash of rebels vs. an empire,<br \/>\nBrought to life with sharp pen strokes.<br \/>\nFilled with colored pencils, brown and orange<br \/>\nWith searing red explosions. It&#8217;s dated<br \/>\nAugust, 1994.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a bulletin board somewhere in here,<br \/>\nBut you&#8217;d be hard pressed to find it.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s camouflaged as the walls are;<br \/>\nCovered in history.<\/p>\n<p>Ever and again I have come here seeking refuge,<br \/>\nAnd ever have I come here and found that &#8211; and so much more.<br \/>\nThis place has inspired me, fostered my creativity,<br \/>\nIt has housed me, protected me, sheltered me,<br \/>\nHidden me, exposed me, held me, helped me,<br \/>\nFilled me, and raised me above a troubled world.<\/p>\n<p>The world in here is just as complete as the world out there,<br \/>\nWhere the sun is beginning to rise again.<br \/>\nA complete world, with a sun, and a moon,<br \/>\nwith day and night, continents and countries,<br \/>\nand countless lives&#8230;<br \/>\nIncluding mine.<\/p>\n<p>I lost myself in here,<br \/>\nAnd I found myself in here.<br \/>\nWelcome to my world.<br \/>\nWelcome to my Sanctuary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sanctuary: A Poem by Keith M.
