And of course, there’s a story to go along with it.

This bunny came from my Dad – who had 2 bunnies who had babies in the spring. One bunny was left, which my sister Sarah named “Pinky.” Originally, we thought Pinky was a girl – but then the vet told my dad she was a boy. So, thinking that two boy bunnies could get along all right (Gussy is very mellow, after all), we picked up Pinky today and brought him home.

We got the pet carrier from my friend Tom, who used to use it to transport his younger English Mastiff “Truman.” Truman obviously doesn’t fit in it anymore (I think he weighs more than me now!), so Tom let us borrow it. It makes for a good “temporary” cage, until Pinky is used to his new home.

Almost immediately, Gussy came to see what this new object was. After a while, he just settled down to wait and see what came out.

So, we let the bunny out after a while (letting him get settled after the scary car ride – his first), and he began exploring.

He was quite curious, after being in a cage all his life, and wanted to know what all these other smells were.

He even checked out Gussy’s food bowl!

And then, the magic moment – the two bunnies met for the first time!

Unfortunately, Gussy got rather… shall we say, excited, in an inappropriate way. This prompted me to re-check the gender of Pinky. Which, as you can probably guess by now, turned out to be wrong. Pinky is a girl.

So now our house is divided – the livingroom is Gussy’s space, and the kitchen is for Pinky. On Monday, I’ll be calling the vet to arrange for Gussy to be neutered. Later on this year we’ll get Pinky spayed. And there will be harmony among the bunnies.

Or so we hope.

Meanwhile, Pinky is settling in quite nicely. We’re not quite sure what to name Pinky (we’re not fond of the name “Pinky”), but something will come to us in a day or two. In the meantime, Pinky is stretching her legs and getting used to her new home.

She’s still skittish, and doesn’t like to be handled, but that’ll pass with time. She’s quite active, and simply adorable – Amanda and I are both quite happy with our second adopted “child.” Of course, once she figures out how to get on the couch, we’ll have no place left to sit!

And since I just dumped a bunch of pictures out of my camera, here’s a couple of cute Gussy pictures (we don’t want him to feel left out, now do we?):

Gussy just loves his little corner.

It’s a hard life for a bunny, and you need to rest often.

Very, very often.

What cute bunnies!

UPDATE: You can follow the adventures of Gus and Betsy now on their own blog, The Life and Times of Bunnies!

You knew it was going to happen… we got another bunny.
