Eugene Volokh writes about Redefining “Sexual Torture”<\/a> – so here’s my 10 cents on the issue.<\/p>\n

The way to think about this issue is to put yourself in the shoes of the prisoner. Think for a moment what a captor might do to you to insult your religion, or to embarrass you in some way – perhaps by doing something that is socially unacceptable to you. <\/p>\n

Once you’ve thought up some things that your captor might do to you, ask yourself whether you think they violate the Geneva convention – or whether they would even qualify as “torture.”<\/p>\n

For myself, although I can think of a lot of things that I wouldn’t like my captor to do, none of them seems unreasonable or cruel – and thus (legally speaking, anyway) perfectly OK to do.<\/p>\n
