This was so amusing, I’m sharing it with you. It was found on the comments section of a Slashdot article<\/a>.<\/p>\n

does anybody know the etymology of the word “patriot” with respect to this legislation?<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It is actually the USA PATRIOT Act, which is an acronym for “U<\/span>niting and S<\/span>trengthening A<\/span>merica by P<\/span>roviding A<\/span>ppropriate T<\/span>ools R<\/span>equired to I<\/span>ntercept and O<\/span>bstruct T<\/span>errorism”.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I thought it was the “U<\/span>seless S<\/span>tate-sponsored A<\/span>ction P<\/span>urporting to A<\/span>ttack T<\/span>error while R<\/span>eally I<\/span>nitiating an O<\/span>ligarchic T<\/span>akeover”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And while we’re on the subject, what IS<\/span> it with the recent trend towards creating cute little acronyms for complex laws? CAN SPAM, USA PATRIOT, etc. It’s such an obvious attempt to divert the issue away <\/span>from the law itself and towards <\/span>the name of the law that it makes me SICK.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
