{"id":1077,"date":"2008-04-11T16:44:47","date_gmt":"2008-04-11T21:44:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.starkeith.net\/coredump\/?p=1077"},"modified":"2008-04-11T16:45:22","modified_gmt":"2008-04-11T21:45:22","slug":"on-the-road-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.starkeith.net\/coredump\/2008\/04\/11\/on-the-road-new-york\/","title":{"rendered":"On the Road: New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New York drivers are much like their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.starkeith.net\/coredump\/2006\/09\/16\/on-the-road-new-jersey\/\">New Jersey neighbors<\/a>, except without the strange phobia of left turns.<\/p>\n<p>Actually that&#8217;s not entirely fair &#8211; as you get further away from New Jersey, New York drivers take on a style all their own.<\/p>\n<p>And it&#8217;s a <em>fast<\/em> style.<\/p>\n<p>Although they retain the irritating habit of slowing down for no reason, by and large you are more likely to find New York drivers doing 120% of the posted speed limit on the Interstate &#8211; if not more. They do also tend to fall into &#8220;lemming&#8221; mode and do whatever the person in front of them \/ around them is doing, regardless of why (which irritates me to no end), but all in all they aren&#8217;t bad drivers at all. Though I&#8217;ve never driven in New York City&#8230; but that&#8217;s really a whole different world and doesn&#8217;t count.<\/p>\n<p>New York drivers are also less likely to cut you off than a driver from New Jersey, they <em>are<\/em> more likely to tailgate very, very close to you if you don&#8217;t get out of their way.<\/p>\n<p>Still, as I said, not bad drivers at all (all things considered).<\/p>\n<p>Next time: Connecticut!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New York drivers are much like their New Jersey neighbors, except without the strange phobia of left turns.
