Probably not many. I know *how* to double clutch, but I'm glad I don't *have* to. The invention of the synchro-mesh was a good thing, IMHO. ;-)

Heya! I used to drive an 86 Cherokee around and it was a 4sp manual. Replaced it with an 04 Dakota that's a 5speed manual (it's so manual (if 04 is still new enough) that it even has manual windows because I dislike the cost of window motors and relays). heheheh.

Cheers, -Dan btw; I wonder how many of those WRX and Honda racer guys know how to double clutch?

I don't think anything will ever replace the good old manual transmission, though it may be harder to find in the future. As for "control freaks," well... I have nothing to say about that right now... maybe later. ;-)

I feel yo loss and pain.
I went to driving school and insisted on learning how to drive a manual.Primarily because I have always wanted to be in control..leading me to think we who buy manaul cars yet we could have bought autos are control freaks. Thoughts on the latter comment are welcome. So I learnt how to drive manual, for my driving test, I was given an auto which I reversed over a sidewalk and narrowly missed smashing it into an electricity pole ..and all because I felt about for the clutch pedal when I realised the damn thing was speeding too much but failed to find it. Luckily enough the fellow taking me thru my driving test "understood" and he allowed me to get a driving license. I feel all that you say about the response time of a manual compared to that of an auto, and its possibly one of the reasons I may never ever buy an auto. I am a doctor in Uganda-east africa,28 years old. Long live manual transmissions...
